The Golden Compass

“Lyra’s world is a world very much like ours, in a parallel universe. Much of it would be familiar to us–the continents, the oceans, Brytain, Norroway, and the North Pole...much is shockingly different. In Lyra’s world, a person’s soul lives on the outside of their body, in the form of a daemon–a talking animal spirit that accompanies them through life, always close to it’s corporeal half.”
These words taken from the trailer of The Golden Compass help prepare us to go into the land of mystery and make-believe and for at least some time–escape reality. If we open our eyes very wide and questioningly, we can see much more than what writer Philip Pullman would like us to see.
The Golden Compass, or Alethiometer, is an invention of Mr. Pullman’s imagination and it brings to life the fiction he desires. “...instead of pointing to True North, it points to truth, but is very hard to read.” Mr. Pullman wants the world to believe that there is no God but only animal spirits that guide us. Intriguing, mesmerizing and addictive is the presentation of the Compass’ fiction. The reason, however, that the Alethiometer was created in fiction is because it features “objects” and not true concepts, as does a real compass. Magnetic compasses, we use to find direction are based on the Law of Opposition and have guided man for centuries. Magnetic compasses operate on the emission of positive ions from the North Pole and negative ions of the South Pole. The very thought of finding truth is based on the belief that there is “not-truth” or falseness. We seek truth because we hate the lie–causing us heartache and loss consistently.
So if we really seek truth, we must know that it lies somewhere opposite of false, just as we know that South is always in the opposite of North. This understanding is sure as if we were standing on the very center of the North Pole. At that moment, the needle of our compass would spin in a circle, indicating absolute North. Any direction we travel from there, is South and as long as we don’t turn left or right, eventually, we will find the absolute opposite of North.
The success of the journey of our life is vital upon our seeking and finding truth. God is truth and His Compass, called the Bibilometer will lead us in the direction away from the Lie. The Bibilometer is based solidly on the Law of Opposition.
In the spirit world, truth and lie have polar homes and they have authors. We know them surely as God in His Heaven and Satan in his Hell. We know their agents as Angels and Demons and their work is to steer us in the direction of their master. A little truth is dangerous and that is what Philip Pullman uses in his Golden Compass Book Series, as a little truth makes the deception tasty. Will you find “TRUE North” or forever be confused by every new Alethiometer and Lyar that comes along.

"a little truth makes the deception tasty"
That is a good saying... particularly when one thinks of other religions that have some good principles.
My the hand of the Lord be continually with this ministry as the years go by. Charlie Helwig
